Art 21 Response

 Christian Marclay

Video can be viewed Here

Marclay's work is bold and experimental.

Christian Marclay, "Actions: Plorfsh Pla-doosh! Whump (no. 2)"

Marclay's use of vibrant color gives this piece a chaotic feel, especially his use of complementary bright blue and orange.

Christian Marclay "Hats"

This piece exhibits an interesting example of unity. Marclay uses three separate and very different images that, when put together, line up into one complete image.

A Few of My Favorite Things

1. A white and purple bouquet of silk flowers. This is the bouquet that I carried as a bridesmaid in the wedding of two of my best friends, I love them both dearly and was honored to have been a part of their special day.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game case. This is the game that inspired me to pursue a career in concept art for video games. The team that made the game put so much love and care into it and I want to be able to do the same one day.

3. An amber-colored glass necklace. This necklace was given to me by my mother, and was given to her by her grandmother (my great-grandmother, I called her Oma). My Oma fled to the US from Germany during Hitler's rise to power due to her Jewish heritage. She was a very sweet and funny woman and I was lucky enough to know her. She passed at the age of 107.

4. An Apple Pencil. Although I typically prefer drawing on paper I have been teaching myself to draw digitally as well since digital art has become such a standard in the video game industry. My first apple pencil broke and my brother bought me this one. When he gave it to me he said that he was proud of me and that he couldn't wait to see what I would do with my art some day. His belief in my ability has made this pencil incredibly special to me.

5. A set of tools for carving woodcuts. I took a printmaking class a couple years ago and it was one of the greatest experiences that I've had during my college experience. My professor was very encouraging of me and is actually the person who told me that I should transfer to Flagler from FSCJ. Along with having a professor who believed in me I met so many wonderful people who I remain good friends with to this day.
